Cambodia - Interplast

Country Information

Cambodia is a largely rural country of 15 million people. While still emerging from decades of war and internal political instability, the country has made great strides and is now peaceful, with economic and human development indicators showing steady improvement.

The national health budget has grown substantially but remains low on a per capita basis, and about 60 per cent of health expenditure is out-of-pocket. This creates many challenges in ensuring universal access to quality healthcare, alleviated only in part by such additional measures as health equity funds, an embryonic system of social health insurance, decentralisation in the health system and the contributions of health non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

Program Information

Interplast is currently not implementing programs in Cambodia but is hoping to re-establish programs in the near future, if funding is available and local partners request assistance. Previous programs have had a capacity building focus with Interplast working with Cambodian Acid Survivors Charity (CASC) in providing compression garment training with the goal of making quality custom-made garments for acid burn survivors.
